Uploading an Audience File

Estimated reading: 3 minutes 37 views

The ability to directly upload an audience is available from the side navigation under “Upload an Audience”

Alternatively, it can also be done from the “Build an Audience File” screen using the “Upload Audience File” option

Once you click you will be taken to the ‘Upload a File’ screen.

  • First select the file that is to be uploaded from your system.
  • Note – Ensure that the file either contains purely a list of 6-digit postal codes (FSALDU ie A1A1A1 ) or purely a list of 3-digit FSAs (A1A). Files containing a combination of FSA and FSALDUs will be rejected.
  • Select whether the file is to be processed as a customer file or a market file.

Upload Requirements

  • intelligentVIEW only works with CSV (comma delimited) files.
  • The name must be alpha-numeric and follow Microsoft Windows file naming conventions.
  • Include ONLY postal codes/FSAs, no other data.
  • Leave duplicate postal codes in the file to weight the analysis appropriately. If you’re analysing 10,000 customers, you should be loading 10,000 postal code records without removing duplicates.
  • After upload, you will be given a record count, rejected records count AND total unique postal codes in the file. Rejected records can be downloaded and examined

Once you’ve uploaded your file, click on continue.

  • You then need to assign the file to an existing project, or you can also create a project if one has not been created yet for the file.

Creating a Project

Think of a Project as a folder that allows you to organize your Audience Files and insights reports. Every time you create an Audience File, through whatever method you choose to create them, you have to define a Project under which the Audience File (and any insights reports run on them) reside.

Every screen that allows you to add an Audience File gives you the ability to select the Project or create a new Project. Simply begin typing the name of the Project you wish to find or create. If the Project already exists select it and if you’re creating a new Project select Create “NEW PROJECT NAME” once you’ve finished typing the name you wish to use.

Next, you need to give your file a name. intelligentVIEW allows duplicate Audience File names.

NAMING TIP: Avoid naming your file “test” or a generic name like “Calgary”, as there could be many files in a project.

You are provided with an option to add a description of the file, while not mandatory this can be very useful in the future to distinguish files, especially if using multiple versions or the file is being used by multiple users.

Once you’re satisfied with the Project, File name and Description, click on continue to proceed with the upload

A summary will appear:

  • The screen will also show you if, and how many postal codes were uploaded successfully, and how many were rejected.
    • It’s common to have a few postal codes rejected, but the system allows you to analyze what postal codes were rejected so that you can troubleshoot your file.
    • To analyze click on the download postal codes with errors button. The system will prompt you to select where you want to download the file on your computer to analyze.

UPLOAD TIP: intelligentVIEW has automated features to remove spaces and characters from your CSV file but can sometimes experience issues loading certain files.

If the postal codes in your file appear to be in the correct format and you are still having trouble, please contact your CSM or contact us at support@consumerig.com.
